Service Description

Somatic therapy is a body-aware approach that recognises trauma is experienced not only through our thoughts and emotions, but also through the body and nervous system. If you often feel anxious, overwhelmed, disconnected or constantly on edge, your nervous system may still be responding to past experiences. By combining trauma-informed counselling with gentle somatic approaches, we'll explore the connection between your body, emotions and mind. Together, we'll help your nervous system develop a greater sense of safety, regulation and resilience, supporting you to reconnect with yourself and move from surviving to living. Somatic therapy may be beneficial for anxiety, Complex Trauma (C-PTSD), childhood and developmental trauma, chronic stress, emotional overwhelm, hypervigilance, dissociation, burnout and persistent feelings of being stuck or disconnected.

Welcome. I'm looking forward to working with you. Trauma-informed and somatic therapy is different from many traditional forms of counselling. While talking is an important part of our work together, we'll also pay attention to your nervous system, body and emotions. There is no expectation for you to talk about difficult experiences before you're ready. Healing comes through safety, trust and working at a pace that feels manageable for you. Before Your Session To help you get the most from therapy, you may find it helpful to: * Wear comfortable clothing. * Have a drink of water nearby. * Use the bathroom before we begin. * Silence your phone and smart devices. * If online, choose a quiet, private space where you won't be interrupted. * Have a blanket, cushion or anything else that helps you feel comfortable. "There Is No Right or Wrong Way" "Every session is different." Some sessions may involve talking, while others may be quieter and more reflective. You may experience emotions, physical sensations or simply notice very little. Whatever you experience is welcome. "Listening to Your Body" During our work together, I may invite you to notice what is happening in your body, such as changes in your breathing, muscle tension, warmth, tightness or the urge to move or become still. These are not problems to fix—they are simply your nervous system communicating with us, and together we'll approach them with curiosity and compassion. "Working at Your Pace" You are always in control of what you choose to share. If something feels overwhelming, we'll slow down. If you need a pause, we'll take one. Therapy is a collaborative process, and your sense of safety will always guide our work. "After Your Session" It's common to feel emotionally or physically different after therapy. You may feel lighter, tired, reflective or emotional. If possible, give yourself a little time afterwards to rest, stay hydrated, take a gentle walk or simply allow yourself space to process before returning to your usual routine. "Finally" * There is nothing you need to prove in therapy. * You don't need the right words or all the answers. * You simply need to arrive as you are. Together, we'll create a safe, compassionate space where healing can unfold, one step at a time.
